What will I cover on the course?

You will;

  • Develop your understanding of the careers education and guidance Sector
  • Identify the role of quality standards and frameworks including The Gatsby Benchmarks, Quality in Careers Standard and Career Development Framework
  • Consider how to network with employers and others to enrich your careers programme
  • Develop an understanding to support compliance with relevant legislation, Statutory Guidance for Schools and Colleges and the CDI Code of Ethics
  • Develop a CPD plan to keep skills and knowledge up to date

How is the course structured?

The course is offered as either face to face training or on-line. Face to face training is two full days and on line is delivered via 8 modules.  The on-line sessions will be face to face via zoom with your group and trainer in real time.

The training is a mix of presentation and activity based and will also provide guidance on how to evidence your learning for assessment purposes.  You will receive a workbook to accompany the training and be provided with access to a bank of resources.  Your named assessor will support you throughout, helping you to plan your work and providing constructive feedback.

For those wishing to accredit their learning and experience we offer unit accreditation towards the QCF Level 4 Diploma in Careers Information and Advice units.  Participants will receive a certificate from OCR showing the three units achieved along with a CDI Certificate for Career Assistants. The units offered are:

  • Unit 1 Preparing to work in the career guidance sector*
  • Unit 14 Promote career related learning to clients
  • Unit 19 Operate within networks to support the delivery of the service.

*Is also a unit of the Level 6 Diploma in Career Guidance and Development. Achievement of this unit would offer the first step towards gaining the full Diploma and being qualified to provide personal careers guidance.

How is my work assessed?

There is no assessment of work for the non-accredited route.  For the accredited route, you will provide evidence of your work practice through observations, assignments, case studies, written accounts and providing work products. Evidence is uploaded to an e-portfolio.  Should your submitted work not meet the standard required, your assessor will guide you on what needs to be done before you re-submit.
