CDI guidelines in using AI and chatbots in careers
Dr Deirdre Hughes has produced a briefing paper for the CDI Ethics and Professional Standards Committee (EPSC) covering guidelines for careers professionals to consider the effective use of artificial intelligence (AI) and chatbots in careers practice.
The paper outlines the nature of chatbots as well as some of the terminology used when discussing new technology. It then explores the benefits of using a chatbot in providing careers services along with health warnings.
Ethical considerations include transparency – ensuring users of chatbots are aware of the consequences of interacting with AI – and privacy and protection of data. As with all transformative technology, AI and chatbots have the power to be beneficial and problematic, depending on how we use them.
